WoW Upgrades - The item upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item level upgrade (more information) used to upgrade item will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item upgrades will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with the help of button, which displays an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item upgrade level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
