World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). The average level of the Best item upgrader is listed on the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is capable of dealing with. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item level.

On your PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats really are. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard item level.

It's not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are a unique item upgrader or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is more useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item level upgrade, up to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be found in the shops or made using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it is not successful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the Upgrade Item successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
