Once you've got the D4 operating it's possible to make use of the app to set up an automatic schedule or manually begin a clean anytime you like. You can also use your voice to control it through Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you have an Apple Watch you can start cleaning by tapping your wrist.

In our tests in the lab, this model cleaned well on both hard and carpeted floors, picking up 91.3% of debris combined in serpentine pathways. However it's not as effective in corner and edge cleaning as other models. The side sensors keep the D4 approximately 1.5 inches away from walls. Also, it doesn't have the side-sweeping brushes on all but the Cheapest lidar robot vacuum robotic cleaners. Its raised turret also means that it can't be used under furniture with low clearance. It can also support virtual No-Go Lines. So you can draw red outlines on your floor plan and instruct the D4 to stay away from this area. The battery life of 75 minutes is about average, too. The latest iRobot robot offers the best robot vacuum lidar obstacle avoidance of any Roomba we've tested because of its front-facing camera and laser sensor. This allows it to stay clear of wires and pet feces better than other robotic vacuums that we've tested, including the Roborock S6MaxV, EcovacsN8Pro, and others.

It's also iRobot's strongest vacuum, able of grabbing messes with deeper debris and hairy pet hair that is larger, unlike other mid-range models, such as the Roomba 960. This is due to the cleaner's larger counter-rotating brushes and a stronger motor with more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is iRobot’s least expensive vacuum, with recharge and resume. However it isn't equipped with the auto-empty feature that the I6+ or I7 offer. It's not equipped with the iAdapt navigation 2.0 and the camera used by the I7 to identify objects and avoid obstacles. It's not able to access features like in-app containment or save maps.

Another drawback is that the iRobot-995 doesn't have mopping capabilities. This may not be an issue if you're looking for a quality vacuum, but it's an issue for anyone who is looking to purchase a hybrid robot.
