It's simple to connect the Matrix to your WiFi and begin mapping out your rooms with the SharkClean app for your smartphone. Once the mapping is complete, the app allows you to make a schedule for your robot to keep your home tidy or select rooms to have the Matrix automatically start a cleaning session. You can also create 'no-go' zones like closets or beds, that you don't want Matrix to get into.

The app allows you to make use of the "spot cleaning" function on demand. You can choose a dirty area on your floor map and the robot will scrub the area on its own with many swipes of its cleaning pad. It does a great job of picking up everything from dog hair tangles to tiny pieces of cut paper scattered from a recent crafting project.

One thing to note about this particular robot is that the LIDAR mapping sensor sits directly on top which could prevent it from slipping under some low-to-the-ground furniture, such as tables and sofas. If you're okay with being a bit higher than other models it's a very good choice. Be aware that this model isn't equipped with an HEPA air filter, like some other models on this list.

Precision Home Mapping

Shark's Matrix Clean Navigation is a precise grid that makes sure that no spot is missed. Incredible suction pulls dirt, dust and debris to a bagless base with a 60-day capacity. Precision home mapping combines 360deg LiDAR vision with an accurate home map within the SharkClean app to allow for completely autonomous movement and intelligent object avoidance. At night or day, it generates a detailed map of your space to allow for full navigation without bumping into furniture and other obstacles. This means your robot can be left to complete a schedule of cleaning or you can trigger Matrix cleaning on demand and set specific targets for your room through the app.

Powerful Suction

The RV2502AE is a great mid-range robot cleaner that ticks all of the boxes. It's easy to use, produces accurate home maps, and has an empty bag that self-empties. It's also less expensive to run than many other robot vacuums.

It also has plenty of power, scooping up debris using its suction opening and relying on its side brushes to push carpet and hair threads into the path of the brushroll. This avoids the accumulation of dirt and clogging of the brushroll seen on other robotic vacuums and makes this machine more effective at picking up pet hair.

Besides its suction-boosting and self-emptying base, this robot features Matrix Clean Navigation for a thorough cleaning process, Precision Home Mapping for object avoidance, a high-efficiency HEPA filter that catches 99 percent of odors allergens, and dust mites and two power modes for various flooring types, and a remote control that gives you access to all of its functions. Moreover, it's compatible with voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant which allows you to initiate cleaning tasks without touching the robot.

While it's a great choice for homes of all kinds, some may have issues with its navigation abilities. This bump bot had trouble with stairs. Other bump bots can avoid them, but this one couldn't. It utilized LiDAR and infrared sensors to map the home, but it kept mistaking my cat's house for stairs and asked me to move it out of the way. It also had a shorter time to run than the advertised time of 180 minutes.

Self-Empty Base

Certain robots, like this one that self-empty bases. These bases can be used to vacuum or dump debris from the onboard dust bin to an external dirt bin. This makes maintenance much easier. These are known as Clean Base Dirt Disposal (iRobot), Auto Empty Station (Ecovacs) or Bagless Self-Emptying Base (Shark). They're a great convenience, but they can be a bit noisy and deadreckoninggame.com messy, also they usually require the use of special disposal bags.

This Shark model is equipped with a HEPA filtered bagless smart floor vacuum base. It has a massive capacity. It can hold debris for up to 60 days, and does not require daily emptying as other models. Shark's suction power is amazing and can take care of even the toughest of debris. The only drawback is that the vacuum system used by the docking station to empty the dust bin on board is quite loud.

When the robot is connected to an outlet on the wall and charged, a beep will be heard and the green light will flash across its top to show it's time to start cleaning. When the battery of the robot is low, it will dock to its base until it's recharged. It's crucial that the dock or Self-Empty Base is located in a position that can't be obstructed by furniture or other objects, and is clear of any obstructions in the vicinity of it.

While this model is a little pricier than some of the other mid-range robotic mops we've tested, it feels well-built and has better performance on bare floors as well as a longer battery life, less maintenance requirements, and a broader variety of automation features, including virtual boundary markers. The iRobot Roomba i7 is still our top choice, however, because it feels more durable and refined it charges faster and is able to be stuck on rug tassels less often. It also has a higher capacity battery.

Easy Setup

The Shark AI Ultra comes with an easy-to-use schedule that requires just few inputs. You can choose the date and time of sunrise and sunset and the duration of ramp times (increasing or reducing the brightness) and if you wish to turn on the lights when it gets dark.

It doesn't have smart mapping or voice control like Alexa and Google Assistant but it has an extremely useful, free programming suite. The suite comprises a range of Windows-based programs that permit setting operating parameters and communication, dmXLAN switch and node configuration and also real-time testing and rapid replication to multiple installations.

Even the most novice users will have no problem getting around the interface. The top tabs correspond to the screens that will be displayed by the installer. There are tabs for playing around with different options of colors and messages. It's a very powerful tool, and it lets you build a quick and easy program installer. The application is a lightweight 1.3MB and works with anything from Windows 7 down to Windows 95.
